california knows how to party
my boyfriend is in africa and my three roommates are going to europe/octoberfest for two weeks. i'm too broke to do europe, but don't want to sit home alone, so two of my friends--jessica and justine--and i are in cali for a week! we flew into LA today and will be driving down the coast for the next week until we fly out of san fran. no real plans, just winging it. we're definitely doing napa valley, but beyond that, who's to say? :) suggestions are welcome!

being a nurse
last night i stepped in my patient's poop. then when i knelt to put his socks back on i sat on my heels and got poop on my butt. good thing the hospital carries extra scrubs for just that sort of thing.

one month later...
i can hardly believe it's mid-june of 2009. where has this year gone? we're only 11 days away from being halfway through this year! anyway, here's what i've been up to... (sorry, no pictures again, i feel like i'm rarely home and when i am, i'm too lazy to upload pictures.)
-jessica came and visited at the end of may! best 2.5 day visit ever!! :) but seriously, i love jess so much. everyone should have a best friend, preferably just like her... but not her. she's mine!
-the weekend jess was here, my roommates and i threw a kegger, which we called "the kennedy street keg kill". it was very college throwback, haha! (this is funny because none of us have even been out of school for a year yet. it's crazy to think that at this time last year i had just graduated from nursing school.) anyway, we were secretly afraid no one would show but we actually killed the keg! i have no idea how that happened, but it was a relief to have people show up :)
-my roommates and i went to jamaica the next weekend. we are notorious for travelling in a "the cheaper the better!" style. therefore, we didn't do an all-inclusive resort vacation like most tourists. nooooo, we rode the jamaican city "bus" (aka a 12 passenger van holding 22 people) for 3.5 hours to our hostel (of course the van broke down an hour into the ride and we had to wait on the side of the road for another hour for a new van). anyway, never again jamaica. there are too many other islands to explore!
-tonight after my 5th night shift in a row (what up overtime?!) my roommates and i are headed to our nation's capital for our friend's morman wedding. i'm trying to think of ways to get the temple's gatekeepers to let me inside the temple for a peek. so far i've got nothing.
after this weekend, everything's gonna slow down a whole lot. i have like two summer plans. it's gonna be awesome. i can't wait to just sit around :)

wordy catch-up entry
i know, i suck at blogging. i just get so busy is all... let's do a brief catch up since my last entry at the beginning of april, shall we?
-on the 23rd of april, i had laparoscopic sugery on my "woman parts," as my friend seth awkwardly put it. haha, wonderful :) to clarify, i was supposed to have some cysts removed from my ovaries is all. no big deal. laparoscopy can't ever compare to the crazy surgeries my heart patients have... i'd classify it under "minor surgery".
-alan and my parents came down separately for the surgery, which was so kind. alan took amazing care of me for many days while i recovered, then drove us both back up to ohio.
-my roommates and some friends came up to ohio for my 24th birthday on april 30th to watch britney spears in concert! we realized that britney seems to hate her fans, but it was fun anyway :) plus, we watched the hannah montana movie, which i highly recommend to anyone of any age
-my work gave me two weeks off in addition to the one week of recovery from surgery to hang out with alan in columbus before he left for africa... ridiculously nice of them!
-alan moved to africa for some indefinite amount of time on may 12th. the first few days were rough for me personally, but i'm dealing much better now, praise the Lord. anyway, keep him in your prayers, okay? please? :) kthanx!
and that's pretty much what's happened during the last month. i reckon it'll end up being the busiest month of 2009. future plans include:
-a trip to jamaica with my roommates in two weeks
-a two week trip abroad in september, either to europe with my roommates or to africa to see alan (if he's still gonna be there)
hmm, guess that's it. not too crazy this summer i guess. that's probably the best for my bank account.
xoxo

april already?
my life is overwhelming me a bit these days. everything is going at such a fast pace. april is destined to be another busy month. i have so many decisions coming up about what i want to do with the rest of my year and beyond but do not have enough information to make any at this time. i hate being stuck in limbo.
also, i want to begin an np (nurse practitioner) program somewhere, but that requires a minimum of a two-year commitment to one location. last night i decided to take the GRE in june just in case. (one decision down! hurrah!)
it's pouring rain here in charleston today and everything's flooded. maybe the weather is adding to my melancholy mood. i don't like feeling sad. i could use some sunshine.
i could use some prayer.
&& because no post should end sounding depressed, here's a picture of a happy thought:
it reminds me of kelly young every time i see it. not sure why.

i believe in miracles... and love's a miracle.
so... haven't updated in a while. february was wonderful. alan came down for 2.5 weeks after his tutoring job finished. two and a half weeks sounds like a long time, but it flew by! and now, somehow it's march?! i've been living in charleston for seven whole months now. i enjoy it down here, but i'm ready for my year anniversary to come because i'm ready to move on.
anyway, it's officially springtime in charleston. that means the couples are in bloom! aww!! i adore spring. i suppose i'm somewhat partial, since i was born on a tuesday in april. however, spring is the season of love and i'll admit i am an insy bit obsessed with love. or in the words of my roommate stephanie, "i love love." i think it's the most wonderful thing on earth... and above the earth. (is that where heaven is located? survey says: yes.) for anyone reading this who is not as full on about love as i am, here are some songs and a picture to get you in the mood :)
lykke li "a little bit" = the song i listen to on repeat pretty much every day
ps. the dancing in the video is crazy and is actually my preferred style of dancing! (i'm an embarrassment to my race, hahahaha)
whitney houston "i believe in you and me" = one of my favorite love songs ever
the picture below... my favorite couple ever :)
have a great spring y'all! now get out there and love somebody!

it's a perrrrfeeeccct dayyyyy
maybe you don't recognize the title of this post without the music... it's a song by hoku, made famous by the movie "legally blonde". (sidenote: hoku's whole album is so fun!) anyway, except for the temperature, it's a perfect day here in charleston. i just joined weightwatchers online a couple minutes ago, but am already bored with the instructional videos and am blogging instead :) anyway, i figure 2009 is a g-rate year to lose those last 15 lbs?
also, i FINALLY watched "alvin and the chimpunks"... oh my gracious i loved it! (no surprise there but whatever.) i could listen to them sing "bad day" for hours before getting a headache! :) i cannot wait for "alvin and the chipmunks: the squeakuel"! (too clever!!)
i haven't posted pictures in a while, so here are a couple... everything else (including the video tour of our house) is on facebook yo!
on the left is a 96 pack of crayons (with the built-in sharpener!)... the biggest one available when i was in elementary school... somehow they have created 24 more colors since then! (i guess it has been about 12 years... yikes.) i wanted to buy the 120 pack but i couldn't justify spending $6 on something i have no use for:
this is r.i.c.k. he's a creepy interactive coca-cola kiosk at my local walmart:
this was a random post, i know.
